Recommendations for Selection of Coupling Lubricating Oils and Greases

Single Tooth-Coupling

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 60 m/s:

Lubricate with No. 0 or No. 1 grease. Fill the coupling completely.

    Regreasing interval: 6–12 months.

Requirement: Good adhesion of lubricant; low sealing requirements.

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 60 m/s:

Lubricate with N150 or N220 gear oil. Fill to half the coupling volume to prevent leakage at standstill.

Oil change interval: 12 months. Use ordinary mineral oil; low sealing requirements.

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 30 m/s:

Lubricate with No. 0 or No. 1 grease. Fill the coupling completely.

    Regreasing interval: 6 months.

Requirement: Good adhesion; low sealing requirements.

Double Tooth-Coupling

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 60 m/s:

Lubricate with No. 0 or No. 1 grease. Fill the coupling completely.

    Regreasing interval: 6–12 months.

Requirement: Good adhesion; low sealing requirements.

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 60 m/s:

Lubricate with N150 or N220 gear oil. Fill to half the coupling volume to prevent leakage at standstill.

Oil change interval: 12 months; low sealing requirements.

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 150 m/s:

Lubricate with N150 or N220 gear oil.

Requirement: Sufficient flow rate, passing axially and continuously through the coupling. No sealing required.

Disc Spring Coupling

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 60 m/s:

Lubricate with No. 2 or No. 3 grease. Fill the coupling completely.

Regreasing interval: 12 months; low sealing requirements.

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 150 m/s:

Lubricate with N150 or N220 gear oil.

Requirement: Sufficient flow rate, passing axially and continuously through the coupling.

Jaw Coupling

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 150 m/s:

Lubricate with N150 or N220 gear oil.

Requirement: Sufficient flow rate, passing axially and continuously through the coupling. No sealing required.

Leaf Spring Coupling

  • At a circumferential speed of approx. 30 m/s:

Lubricate with No. 1 grease. Fill the coupling completely.

Regreasing interval: 1000 hours; low sealing requirements.
